The Nutcracker Oklahoma reviews
What story is this?
Well, the dancing was stellar, as expected, and the music enchanting. However, what have they done with the story? I hadn't been to see Milwaukee ballet's Nutcracker in about 10 years. The sets are much the same, as are the costumes, but they have taken all the stuffing out of the story. The ballerina playing Clara was entirely too bratty and played her too young, and there was no interesting chemistry with Drosselmeyer. Fritz was well played and extremely well danced. The scenes were simply strung together with no story. The dance of the flowers reminded me of a creepy smiling water ballet. The dance of the snowflakes seems to have lost its lovely set. The nanny and children lacked charm, as did the goose girl and geese. I certainly won't be back for another 10 years.
